Art on the wall

Graffiti – (singular: graffito; the plural is used as a mass noun)
is writing or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place.
Graffiti ranges from simple written words to elaborate wall paintings, and has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.

Melbourne is famous for its little alleyways and laneways adorned with graffiti.  They creep up on you when you least expect it and their walls, pavements and even the garbage bins are works of art.

I love their ingenuity and sense of humour ....
Colour and style....
.... and simplicity
One of my favourite magazines – InsideOut recently dedicated their blog page to Laneway Graffiti in Melbourne

And finally,
not strictly graffiti,
but on many churches my guess would be that this could be misconstrued as such.
 No?

  2. Amazing art! I have been to many cities around Australia but for some reason I have never made it to Melbourne yet. I always think it looks like my ideal city though! I love your blog (and your sea photos are beautiful too).
