The Poppies at Delphi

Oh to be in Delphi, now that Spring is there....

.... to breathe sage-scented air

.... to revel in the joy of finding blood-red poppies shouting: "look at me"

"look at me"

... to walk the Sacred Way

.... along the path of ancient pilgrims

.... to gaze in awe at the Omphalos
the Navel
the centre of the ancient world

... to catch my breath as I drink in the view across the Pleistos Valley from Mt Parnassus

.... again

and again ....

....to sit among the columns of the Temple of Apollo

..... and to stand at the cornerstone of all things thespian

.... where the theatrical and musical events of the Pythia games took place

.... and more importantly,
to just be me ....
at my place ....
 the Temple of Athena

For to visit Delphi is to touch your soul

 A place to rest
A place to breathe
A place to dream

Especially now....

.... that the poppies are there!

  5. Greece is the one country, that is very much on my list of places to see. Our daughter who went for her honeymoon there took such gorgeous pictures of that place, and she keeps on telling us to plan a visit that country.
Your pictures and the words are really so beautiful and apt.
There are so many beautiful places to see, I only wish we could just think of a place and just be there like magic. I have another blogger friend who keeps on travelling to all the beautiful countries and comes back with amazing pictures of that place.
I feel you people are lucky to have seen so many beautiful places. And people like me too are lucky in a way, for we get to see those places through your eyes.
    Happy Mother's Day!

  11. The scents and sights of Delphi have transported me from this wintry (though it is still autumn!)wet windy and cold place in France. Thank you for giving me a glimpse into a poppy-bright ancient world - it has made my day. Love
